HISTORIC EARLY RIDE 2 hr adventure, check in 8:30am:
We ride along the foothills of the West Maui Mountains. You will be treated to extrodinary views of Molokai, Lanai and Lahaina Town and Harbor. We ride into Launiopoko Valley where we dismount for refreshments at our authentic Hawaiian Hale' (house),it is perched upon a ridge, situated next to an acre Large pond that is fed by cool mountain stream water. . Snack and Beverage included.

"Specializing in Horseback Rides across beautiful Haleakala"

Pony Express is proud to offer one of the only horseback rides in the world that goes into a dormant volcano, Haleakala Crater. Located at the 10,000 ft. elevation, rides are limited to small groups and are led by experienced and knowledgeable wranglers who narrate about the geology, legends, and plant life of the crater.

The “Junction Ride” is considered a novice ride, in that the trail is gentle with no steep drop-offs. We descend from the 10,000 ft. elevation down the Sliding Sands Trail, passing the rare Silversword Plants and Cinder Cones to the floor of the crater where lunch is served, and then returns 2 hours back out. Rides operate daily.

Pony Express also offer two rides daily across Haleakala Ranch, a private ranch located at the 4,000 ft elevation of Haleakala Crater. The terrain is lush, rolling pasture land with beautiful views of the island and coastline below. This is a working cattle ranch so the experienced wrangler will narrate about the paniolo (cowboy) history and plant life of the area, including the ancient Chinese rock walls. Rides operate daily.

Rider Requirements: We ask that riders be 10 and over; under 65 years of age (unless prior approval); weight limit is 235#; no pregnant riders, and for those doing the Junction Ride we screen for any health concerns with the 10,000 ft. elevation like heart, lungs, or elevation sickness.

Maui Stables offers daily rides, originating at their new and spacious stable facility where morning refreshments are served up with an orientation and equipment familiarization. All tours are accompanied by and “Alaka’i”, or trained tour leader, and a “Kako’o” (apprentice), who begin each tour with traditional “pule” prayer and “oli”, or call to our “aumakua” (ancestors). As Hawaiian history is consistent with your language, all of our important events were recorded orally through chants. These chants will be used extensively through out the tour, and each guest will be given the basic intent. The small group size of our Maui horseback tours allow for this oral tradition to continue as we share the history of our ancestors.

Duration approx. 3 hours till 12:30 pm.closed toed shoes and long pants required. Sunscreen, camera, swimwear and change of clothes recommended. Most authentic hawaiian horseback ride--ride back in time in Hana & learn about history and see beautiful pristine upper valleys. Morning refreshments and deli lunch included.
