Your tour will take you along the Kona coast to view Kealakekua Bay and visit a Kona coffee plantation where you will sample this flavorful brew. Your Hawaii Volcano Adventure continues with an extensive exploration of the incredible Volcanoes National Park which includes Kilauea Iki crater, steam bluffs, fern tree jungle and Thurston Lava Tube. You will survey the stark, volcanic landscape of the Park from the observatory, and browse Jagger Museum. You will visit an orchid and anthurium nursery, and drive past many cascading waterfalls on the Hamakua Coast. Your tour will travel through Parker Ranch lands, home of the original paniolos (Hawaiian cowboys) in Waimea. Experience the magic and mystery of the Big Island and the elements of its creation as your friendly, local guide shows you Hawaii's best sights on this personalized tour. Drive through the historical town of Hilo on the slopes of Mauna Loa. Learn about the old Hawaii, see beautiful Liliu'okalani Gardens, Wailuku River State Park, Rainbow Falls, and try to spot Na Honu, green sea turtles, as we stop at a nearby black sand beach. Our journey then turns as we head down to explore Volcanoes National Park. As we drive through this amazing volcanic landscape we will make many stops at different vantage points overlooking the caldera. Explore the amazing Thurston lava tube, Observe billowing steam vents at the Kileaua Iki Crater. At the Jaggar Museum see exhibits and incredible views of the Halemaumau crater and Kilauea Caldera. We will get as close to the lava as Civil Defense will allow. A stop during the day will be made for a no-host lunch. Be sure to bring your camera! Let us show you an exciting side of the Big Island! Start with an expansive and breathtaking view of the lava flows on a climb through the saddle between Mauna Loa, an active volcano, and Mauna Kea, home to world famous observatories before arriving in Hilo Town. Your first stop we will visit the world-famous Rainbow Falls from a private viewing platform directly over the falls that only you will have access to! Sip a cup of coffee brewed from beans picked fresh from the tree and roasted just for you.
Kilauea Volcano has been erupting continually since 1983, adding more than 700 acres of new land to the island. This creation comes at a price, and, as you set off on your journey, watch an audio-visual presentation showing footage of the eruption. Hear firsthand stories of life in Kalapana from the former residents who witnessed the destruction of their homes just a few years ago! Visit the site of the most beautiful black sand beach in the world, Kaimu, entombed since 1990 under 75 feet of lava. A stop at Mackenzie State Park reveals dramatic cliffs of lava overlooking the brilliant blue waters of the Pacific. Enjoy a delicious picnic style deli lunch at a working macadamia nut and honey farm complete with the beverage of your choice including chilled champagne and local beer. Relax and enjoy the panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean before reboarding your vehicle for a drive into a 350 acre volcanic crater. Home to one of only two freshwater lakes on the Big Island, the crater is a spectacular and pristine tropical rainforest. To cap off this extraordinary adventure, enjoy a relaxing drive along the Hamakua and Kohala coast, through historic Parker Ranch lands and the cattle town of Waimea.
